drama.

Sometimes I think that Grace is bipolar.  She is so happy and cheerful... and then we ask her to do something simple (like get her pajamas on) and she flips out in a screaming, yelling, throwing things, slamming doors rampage.  It's insane.  And it's getting really old.  The other night we were having family scriptures and somebody said something she didn't like and she stormed off to her bedroom.  After slamming the door she scurried over and wrote this lovely note... opened the door and threw it down the stairs.
Jeremy opened it, read it and burst into laughter.  I read it and did the same.  I don't know where she has heard this (my guess is Phineas and Ferb, a favorite in our house).  We all had a good laugh, which cheered her up for about ten minutes.

Any advice for us on how to deal with an over-the-top-dramatic-six-year-old?

I tell my kids they MAY NOT act like that. They may not yell, they may not say mean things, and they may not act rudely. That said, I still try to validate their feelings, and help them to "get over it," especially with the things that don't really matter. We're definitely still working on it. Good luck. :)

My Babs went through a time like this 3-6 months after we got our other children. She was way out there. Pulling out her own hair and threatening to kick the glass windows on the bookcase. It was really hard. I had to get really regimental about routine with her. She doesn't like the unknown. She is also 7 years old and goes to bed at 7, which seems ridiculous, but she is a person that needs 12+ hours of sleep. Long response, but I feel your pain. She does better with these two guidelines. Good luck! Hope you find something that helps soon :)

well, I have an over the top dramatic 5 year old who has been like this since she was four. If the teenage years are any worse I am going to throw in the towel now!
