good-bye, billy. hello, mickey.

We bought Billy back when we were engaged to be married.  He's been such a good little car.  I remember driving him with three kids in the backseat, no air conditioning, and pregnant back in our first few years of dental school.  Good times.
The felt on the ceiling has been peeling off for years.  We have dozens of names imprinted on the inside of that car.  Youth from the church, buddies of Jeremy's, the kids, tons of people.  These are my two favorites... Jeremy <3's Chelle...
And my bestie, Kristen. (she has the cutest handwriting ever.)
Jeremy has been driving Billy around hoping that one day he would finally die and he could get a new car.  He's been hoping since around 2008.  Billy is still going strong.
There are so many memories in that car.  Jeremy's favorite are the UVSC parking stickers that won't come off the windshield and the dental school parking tags that will... but he couldn't bear to part with them (he's very nostalgic).
With the practice doing as well as it is, and Billy getting a little more rickety.... he decided to stop in at the Volkswagen one afternoon.  He has wanted a GTI for years and the dealer talked him into test driving one.  He fell in love and decided that it was time to say good-bye to Billy.
Rather than trade him in for what little he was worth... he decided to sell him to one of his old Young Men for a dollar.  Seemed like a fair trade to us.  Help someone in need and pass Billy off to friends that are more like family, instead of a dealer that would send him to the junkyard.  With a little TLC, Billy will still run for a long, long time.
The trade-off at the dealership.  We're so happy Billy is in such good hands.
Meet Mickey.  Jeremy's new baby.
He's just a little excited.
He's named Mickey after the actor Mickey Rooney.  We love the Night at the Museum series.  In the first one Mickey plays one of the old guards at the museum.  He refers to someone as "hatchback".  We have always loved that part of the movie (especially Graham).  Since the GTI is a hatchback... it reminded us of that movie.  And Mickey was born.
It was so fun to ride home from the dealership with Jeremy.  He was SO excited about his little zippy car.  I love that smile!

Yay for a new car! They're so much fun! We traded in our mini-van for a Honda Pilot and I've been having fun driving that. :)
