our adventure without power.

While our sister-in-law and her girls were here we had quite the adventure.  We woke up one morning to a a ton of snow!  It was gorgeous and we enjoyed it for the first little bit.  And then the power went out.  We kept saying it was going to come back on... but it stayed on for a full day and then some.  It got cold.  Really cold.  I went to take the kids to school and had to turn around because our roads were blocked.  There was a fire one street over that affected the power in our neighborhood.  Can you see the smoke behind the house?
We drove past and got a very blurry picture.  The fire started behind the house.  I believe it was a tree but I'm not quite sure.  We couldn't see too much.
Most of the trees still had leaves on them.  Between the heavy, wet snow and the leaves the branches didn't have a chance.  Our neighborhood looked so sad as we drove down the street.  Most of the homes had branches strewn about.
The kids were so excited that they got a free snow day that they went straight outside... Lily was so adorable dressed up in all of her snow gear.
Lincoln made a baby snowman on the back porch.
It got dark quick.  We played board games by flashlight.
We tried to keep our electronic time to a minimum.  Especially our phones.  We were able to charge them in my van when we had to.  The girls were able to watch a movie on the ipod one time before it died.
It looked amazing outside, despite all of the tree branches and the fact that it wasn't even halloween and there was snow on the ground...
It was getting really cold by the time Jeremy came home.  We became so grateful for our fireplace that day.  He started it up and it kept us warm through the night and into the next day.
The kids roasted hot dogs and the adults ordered chinese.
Books were read by candlelight before bedtime.
Most of us snuggled down to bed in front of the fire.  I was so worried that our house would catch on fire in the middle of the night... but we survived.
Henry was mesmerized by the fire!
When there are no electronics... our kids turn to books.  It was so fun to hear them read to each other.
Lincoln made two friends in the front yard...
Jessica pulled out the nail polish...
Aunt Natalie is a favorite... the kids love her...
Jessica had just moved one load of laundry to the dryer and started another batch when the power went out.  Her flight left the next day.  It was hours before she needed to leave so we went to a friends house to get her laundry finished so she could head to the airport.  We got home and the power was back on!  She had to rush to the airport.... but made it home safely.
What a crazy couple of days!

Wow, what an adventure! It's crazy that you guys got so much snow in October but I'll bet the kids loved playing in it! And a snow day? We haven't had one of those out here in Utah since I was a kid! Crazy! I'm glad you have a fire place to keep your house warmer. I love having one too. Those cousins sure looked like they were having fun! Glad your power went back on and Jessica is home safe again!
