Gracie celebrated her birthday with a fun Harry Potter birthday party. I say it was super low key... my husband and sister say otherwise. We sent each of her friends an official Hogwarts acceptance letter in the mail. A few of them thought it was the real thing and were so excited to go to school there!
The decorations were basically free. We made floating candles by rolling up paper and attaching a flame and string. So easy! We kept them up for a few days.
We found free printables online of the Daily Prophet, Wanted posters and a few Proclamations. We hung them outside near the walkway for guests to see as they arrived. These may be my favorite. 9, 9 3/4 and 10 signs on the banisters out front.
We added some more wanted posters to the empty dining room wall (one of these days I will paint and decorate that room...)
Almost everyone in the family dressed up in some costume. It was fun to have Dobby the houseelf back in our house.
The boys loved the moaning Myrtle picture I placed on the toilet seat...
When the guests arrived they were greeted by Olivander (aka Jeremy) and were given a wand and a spell book. As you know... the wand chooses the wizard.... Olivander did such a good job making it fun. (These were made with chopsticks, hot glue and spray paint. Tedious... but worth it!) They were then led into the Great Hall where they each took a turn with the sorting hat and were divided up into houses. (I don't have a picture of that since I was doing the sorting...)
A friend of mine was kind enough to dress up and teach a Potions class. She loves Halloween and brought all of her props. She was amazing!
She made Gracie feel so special by calling her up to help mix the potions!
A lot of the guests dressed up for the party. It was so fun to see all of them!
The first potion was used as a fertilizer. It makes everything grow bigger (aka elephant toothpaste).
The second potion was liquid luck. Everyone got a chance to try it. They also got a fun potions book to take home with all kinds of fun things to try making with their families at home.
Once everyone had their taste of Liquid Luck... they lined up and went out to Defense Against the Dark Arts. My sister, Natalie, dressed up and was amazing teaching them different spells.
After class they lined up and came inside to the Winking Lizard for cake and ice cream.
Easiest. Birthday cake. Ever. Thank you, Hagrid.
She's such a sweet little birthday girl. I love her so much.
After cake we opened presents! Her friends spoiled her rotten!
After presents they each got a turn visiting Honeydukes. We had all sorts of fun candy. Chocolate frogs, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jelly Beans, Acid pops, Chocolate Wands, Cockroach Clusters.... etc.
They each took home all of their goodies in these fun Harry Potter gift bags.
Such a fun party... I'm secretly hoping we can repeat it sometime in the future. I'm thinking Quidditch in the backyard would be fun. Happy Birthday, Gracie!

You guys seriously need to start a party planning company. You are so creative and people would pay good money to have this kind of stuff.
