It's no secret that Jeremy loves Coldplay. I'm a huge fan myself. We try to see them whenever they tour. This year they didn't come to Cleveland, but they did come to Detroit. Turns out Michigan is super close to us. We bought our tickets, lined up a sitter and made a day trip out of it. Three hours with your sweetie in the car is a breeze when you've just driven to Utah with five kids! We saw this awesome bridge on the way.
We decided to stay in this cozy bed and breakfast instead of a boring hotel. Breakfast and dinner were in included which made it even better. Highly recommend the Cobblestone Manor if you're ever in Auburn Hills, Michigan! Before the show. I love this man so so much. It was so fun to spend time together just the two of us!
They gave us these wristbands when we entered the arena. They came in all different colors.
There were detailed instructions on these awesome screens hanging overhead.
Set up for the openers...
There were two openers. The first was pretty good. The second lady was a mix between early Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga. Jeremy had to leave halfway through her set because she was a little too much for him. He couldn't handle a single word of her song, "Bubble Gum B*****s". I should have left with him.
You can't see very well, but there are four guys sitting in chairs amongst the lights. We watched them climb these ladders up there before the concert and they stayed up there until the concert was over. What an incredible job that would be.
You know the show is about to start when they play a completely ridiculous rap song filled with more expletives than my little ears can handle, followed by some amazing classical song. It really hypes up the crowd or something...
The first song they played was "Hurts Like Heaven".... one my very favorites! The kids and I dance to it at least once a day. As soon as the lights went down all the wristbands lit up! They were synced to all of the songs from their new album. It was pretty magical.
My awesome wristband...
I can hear the music now...Coldplay really knows how to put on a show. There were lasers, confetti, huge plastic balls, so many effects... it was so ridiculous.
One of my favorites... yep... that's Chris Martin.
They had these awesome screens up all around that showed up close shots of the band members. We brought binoculars and we didn't really need them!
Chris and the other band members would kick the balls when they got close to them.
My favorite Coldplay songs are the slower ballads. When it's just Chris and the piano.
One of my favorite pictures from the night...
Lasers.... lots of lasers.... I think this was during Don't Let it Break Your Heart. They played a good mix of old songs and new songs. All of the classics that everyone loves.
I smiled when they sang Paradise. Graham loves that song but he can't say his R's. When he sings it he says, "Pawa-pawa-pawadise." I love it!
They sang Paradise and then closed the show. We were all screaming for an encore and they showed up literally ten rows behind us! We've seen them do this at previous shows and were thrilled it happened so close to us! This is a camera shot that isn't zoomed at all. They were SO close! We were dying. They sang another one of my favorite songs, Us Against the World. It started with Chris and as the song progressed each member of the band joined them.
It was the drummers birthday so we all sang Happy Birthday to him. That was fun.
Afterwards they ran back to the stage. We were three rows from the floor and they walked right in front of us! It was so cool. (reminded me of when I was at the Clay Aiken concert with my little sister back in the day and he walked right next to me. Good times, good times.)
My cute little Coldplay groupie....
Fix You! One of the best songs ever created.
What I loved most about the concert is how you could totally tell how much the band loves their fans. They put on such a good show. And they have so much fun doing it. They could just stand there and play their songs but they don't. They make it this experience for the fans. It was incredible. After they were done they stood there and clapped for the crowd as we clapped for them. SO classy. I love them.
Best band ever.
And take a bow...
I think they bumped up to my top three bands. It was the best night ever.
